Massage to treat bunion is a simple manipulation technique to create reflex effects in the cervical and lumbar spine (depending on the severity of the disease), as well as in the legs and feet to treat and prevent the disease.

Massage for Hallux Valgus is performed carefully, without unnecessary physical effort because the foot has anatomical features.It can be a general strengthening or a direct effect on the deformation zone.
Prepare
Before starting massage for hallux valgus, you need to make preliminary preparations for the operation, which includes several stages.
For adults this is:
- Steam your feet in hot water with an herbal mixture of sage, pine needle extract, chamomile and oak bark.The medicinal components of the plant easily penetrate into the heated dermis and have anti-inflammatory and tonic effects.
- Applying an emollient containing shark oil or laurel oil to the feet and big toe area, can warm and nourish the deep layers of the dermis.
For children with anatomical pathologies:
- Use the palm of your hand to gently rub, then use stronger force (with the ribs of the palm) on the cervical spine and lower back;
- Warms up the skin and muscles of the thighs, legs and feet with gentle circular movements so they are softer during the main massage.
After the manipulations, the massage process will be more comfortable, painless and effective.
Technique
Although the general techniques - stroking, massaging, tapping, pressing, massaging for crooked toes in children are different from adult procedures.
For children, experts recommend starting with the neck and back;for adults, all manipulations are aimed at the area around the tumor, which is characteristic of the pathology (but not the growth itself), as well as on the feet.
In adults
Hallux valgus massage is performed independently as follows:
- Using circular movements of varying intensity, the area around the protruding joint is calculated;
- the pad of the thumb is warmed up, adding small joint rotations to the sides;
- Using firm grasping and pressing movements, the joints of each finger are carefully palpated and pressed.
Next is the non-contact massage, you need:
- move your toes up and down;
- make a fan - the toes point to the sides and converge;
- Take a small ball with your toe and move it to the side;
- Place your foot on the needle roller and roll it with light pressure.
These exercises, by increasing blood flow, reduce inflammation and pain caused by deformed joints and help strengthen muscles.
In children

Massage for children with bowed feet is performed with extreme caution and only in a lying position to avoid causing additional stress on the musculoskeletal system:
- The child is placed on his stomach so that his legs are below the working surface and the spine is mobilized with up and down movements, then the sides are clenched in the direction of the armpits.
- They go down to the sacrum and buttocks, stroking in circular motions and also horizontally to work on these areas.
- Using stroking movements from the knee, the back of the thigh is massaged, then these areas are thoroughly kneaded with stronger movements.
- Flat feet and heels are rubbed vigorously in all directions, then gently shake the skin in the foot area without pinching.
- Each finger in turn is vigorously massaged by gentle stretching along the entire length of the finger.
- Using circular movements from toe to heel, draw a figure eight, moving the foot.
- The child is turned over on his back, a pad is placed under the knee and the exercises are repeated on the front of the leg.
Massage to treat bunions in children, in addition to flat feet and heel rolls inward or outward, will be effective if treated promptly and regularly.
Contraindicated
Massage for plano-valgus deformity has the following contraindications:
- any disease of the lower extremities in the stage of exacerbation;
- general physical malaise associated with systemic diseases;
- malignant tumors;
- problems of the cardiovascular system;
- varicose veins.
In addition, people with unstable blood pressure and weak blood vessels should also be cautious when massaging.
Self-massage for hallux valgus can only be done if the disease is not severe or complicated.
In other cases, these simple and affordable massage techniques will help relieve discomfort, restore muscle tone, normalize blood flow and, as part of a comprehensive treatment, eliminate the problem.
